About us

The name Altius means “higher” in Latin, reflecting the ambition of this programme: to help students reach the academic level required for university study.

Altius stands for growth, ambition and development. It is not a remedial year, but a rigorous academic programme that strengthens language skills, subject knowledge and independent study skills, preparing students to take the next step with confidence.

Altius Academic Pre Bachelor Programme

Your path to the University of Groningen
Altius is designed for students who have the ambition to study at the University of Groningen (UG), but who need to bridge the gap between their educational background and the admission requirements for a Bachelor’s programme at the UG.

During this nine-month programme, students prepare for the academic standards, study culture and expectations of university education in the Netherlands. The programme supports students in developing the subject knowledge, academic skills and study confidence needed for a successful transition into a Bachelor’s programme.

Students who successfully complete the Altius programme and meet the required criteria can directly access Bachelor’s programmes at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the UG.

Organisation
Altius is organised by AOG TSM Business School B.V. (AOG), an experienced educational organisation with strong academic roots in Groningen. AOG is connected to a long-standing public-private partnership between the University of Groningen (UG) and Freia Group, established through AOG in 1989.

AOG has extensive experience in higher education and also offers accredited Master’s programmes. With Altius, AOG organises and delivers a high-quality pre bachelor programme in consultation with the UG and aligned with the academic standards and expectations of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

AOG is responsible for admission to, and the organisation and delivery of, the Altius Academic Pre Bachelor Programme. The University of Groningen is responsible for admission to, and the content and delivery of, its Bachelor’s programmes.
