This is a selective programme designed for students who meet specific eligibility requirements.
Checklist
- Completed (or are about to complete) international secondary education before the start of our programme
- 18 years or older at the start of the programme
- Ambition to study at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen
- Not yet meeting the direct entry requirements for a Bachelor’s degree or would benefit from additional preparation
- English level of B1 or higher (see below)
- Prepared to live and study abroad
- Motivated to invest time and effort in academic development
- Looking for a comprehensive programme that includes academic preparation, housing, and a social programme
- Value personal guidance and a supportive learning environment
- Available to follow the complete programme from 2 September 2026 to 28 May 2027

English language proficiency
Students can meet the English language requirements by one of the following documents as proof of their English language proficiency:
IELTS
Minimum 5.5 overall and no sub-scores below 5.0
TOEFL iBT of iBT Special Home Edition
Minimum 70 overall, with a minimum of 15 of Listening, 14 for Reading, 19 for Speaking, 16 for Writing.
Certificate no older than 2 years.
Cambridge English (Advanced or Proficiency)
162 and no sub-scores below 154
Exemptions
Exemption is offered to students who completed:
English-taught IB-diploma
IB-diploma in a different language of instruction: expemtions may be offered if you pass one of the English courses with a grade 5 or higher
Sufficient subject knowledge
Students are required to have sufficient knowledge of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. This will be determined by assessing the level of your secondary school diploma. We will check whether this level is higher or equal to the Dutch ‘havo’ level.
