The Altius Academic Pre Bachelor Programme is a 9-month full-time preparatory programme for students with an international educational background aiming to start a Bachelor's programme at the Faculty of Science & Engineering at the University of Groningen.

What will you study

Academic English & Skills

Develop the reading, writing, listening and speaking skills required for university-level study. Learn how to think critically, conduct research, manage your time effectively and study independently.

Mathematics & Science subjects

Strengthen your knowledge of mathematics, statistics, physics and chemistry, while developing the analytical and problem-solving skills required for university-level study.

Dutch Language & Culture

Gain a basic understanding of the Dutch language and culture to support your daily life and studies in the Netherlands.

More about the programme

Study load

The programme is full-time (40 hours per week) and comparable to university-level study. Students are expected to attend classes, complete assignments and engage in independent study.

After completing the programme

After (successfully) completing the programme, you will be able to:

  • enter a Bachelor’s programme at the University of Groningen (FSE)
  • demonstrate the academic skills required for university-level study
  • apply relevant subject knowledge (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) at the required level
  • function effectively within the Dutch academic environment
  • communicate confidently in English

Social programme

Alongside your studies, you will take part in a social programme designed to help you settle into student life in the Netherlands. From introduction activities and excursions to sports and community events, the programme offers many opportunities to connect with fellow students and explore Groningen and Dutch culture.
