Social programme

Starting your studies in a new country involves more than academics. That is why the programme also includes a social programme to support your integration, wellbeing and transition to student life in the Netherlands.

Beyond the classroom

Introduction programme
On 2 September 2026 we will start with an introduction programme. During this period, you will become familiar with the city of Groningen, the academic environment and your fellow students through social activities. You will receive practical information, meet lecturers and staff, and learn what to expect from the programme.

Study advisor
Throughout the programme, you will have regular contact with a dedicated study advisor. The study advisor supports you with progress monitoring and personal development, and is available to discuss questions or challenges you may encounter during the year.

Sports
The ACLO is the sports organisation for students in Groningen. You can try 100 sports, for example by renting a padel court or attending a group lesson. You can apply for an ACLO membership for €74,95 per year.

Excursions and social activities
Throughout the programme, organised excursions will be offered by programme management to help you experience Dutch culture and explore the Netherlands.

In addition, there is a social programme organised by students themselves through the activities committee. This allows you to connect with fellow students and contribute to a supportive and active community.

The activities committee is part of the Altius Academic Pre Bachelor Programme. You can apply to join this committee once you are admitted, and members will be selected by programme management.

Associations
Please note that Academic Pre Bachelor students are not formally enrolled as Bachelor’s programme students and are therefore not eligible for membership of study associations, student associations or university sports clubs during the programme.
